City to Open Building Department on Fridays

By Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce

In response to local business’ needs, the City of Gainesville has announced that they will extend their Building Department hours to provide half-day services on Friday, from 7am – 1pm, located on the first floor of the Thomas Center, which began on November 22, 2013. Previously, all City of Gainesville offices were closed on Friday. In addition, a planner of the day will be available on Fridays to provide zoning compliance determinations and other non-appointment planning services, according to the City of Gainesville.

This development represents tangible progress achieved from feedback received from the business community at the Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business Workshop in May, 2013.  Friday services were one of the 27 recommendations made by the Gainesville Chamber to the City of Gainesville to promote the growth of small business in the Gainesville region. The extended hours are part of a 6-month pilot program, which will be evaluated afterward to determine whether long-term change is needed.

“The City of Gainesville is taking action to the feedback of the business community and with changes like these, will be able to better serve the needs of our local businesses,” said Tim Giuliani, President & CEO of the Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce. “The Gainesville Chamber is dedicated to fostering the growth of our regional businesses, and we look forward to continuing to work with the City of Gainesville to make our area a great place for business.”
