Specialty health food store Lucky’s Market has chosen Gainesville as the site of its first Florida store.
The location is set to open its doors in November at 1459 NW 23rd Ave., just west of 13th Street, according to a statement from the company. It will create about 200 jobs.
The Colorado-based grocery store chain caters to a niche market, boasting organic, local, specialty and gluten-free items. The Gainesville location will include local produce, fresh seafood, a bakery and juice bar.
“We believe that healthy food should be available to all walks of life, and want to bring it to more people,” said company co-founder Bo Sharon in a statement. “We are also just as passionate about our communities as we are about our food. We look forward to supporting our neighbors through a variety of local giving programs.”
The company has locations in eight other states, mostly in the Midwest region. The Gainesville store is part of a wave of new openings. Lucky’s is also planning new stores in Iowa, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri and Wyoming.
“Gainesville has had a resurgence of development on Northwest 13th Street, and the addition of Lucky’s to our market will give our northwest neighbors a wonderful choice of foods and spirits,” said Asset Management Inc. President Betsy Whitaker, who brokered the deal, in a statement.
