UF to offer free vehicle checks for older drivers

Older drivers interested in learning how to fit more comfortably and safely in their vehicles are invited to visit CarFit from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 24th, at the Senior Recreation Center, 5701 NW 34th St.

Trained students from the University of Florida College of Public Health and Health Professions’ department of occupational therapy will lead drivers through a 12-point checklist with their vehicles, recommend personal vehicle adjustments and adaptations and offer community resources and activities that could make personal vehicles “fit” better or enhance driver safety. An occupational therapist will be on hand to provide information on how to maintain and strengthen driving health.

Interested participants are asked to call Linda Struckmeyer, Ph.D., at 352-273-6817 or email [email protected] to schedule an appointment. All ages are welcome.

Supporting sponsorship of CarFit, a national program, is provided by the UF department of occupational therapy. National sponsors include the American Society on Aging, the AARP, AAA and the American Occupational Therapy Association.
