UF Health, Florida Department of Health host major vaccination event at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium

COVID-19 vaccinations in Florida open to anyone 16 years and older starting Monday, April 5. UF Health, in collaboration with the Florida Department of Health in Alachua County and the Gators Athletics Department, will kick off its largest vaccination effort to date Monday, April 5 at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

Since vaccines became available, the focus has been on the older population and those most vulnerable. Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, one of several sites in Alachua County to host vaccination efforts, will now welcome young people to the mix, including UF students. Monday, April 5, UF Health volunteers anticipate using the health department’s supply of vaccine to inoculate up to 5,000 people, ramping up to a goal of 20,000 people per week.

This is an important next step in helping bring an end to the pandemic. UF Health Screen, Test & Protect experts say three out of four cases are the result of infections spread by people in their 20s, 30s and 40s.
