Solar Program’s Payoff to Schools Recognized

Solar Impact presented a $2.46 million check to the Alachua County School System Tuesday evening, representing the amount of surplus energy the system can sell back to Gainesville Regional Ultilities over the next 20 years.

School Board members April Griffin, Eileen Roy, Gunnar Paulson, Leanetta McNealy and Carol Oyenarte accepted the check on behalf of the school system.

Since starting the project in 2011, Solar Impact has installed solar panels in 11 Alachua schools, helping to bring in other energy efficient companies and creating over $1 million of work for local employees.

“We wanted to take a moment to stop and thank the school board, our investors and all the people involved with making this happen. We are looking forward to the next phase of action,” said Solar Impact President Barry Jacobson.
