Santa Fe named top 10 percent college

The nonprofit Aspen Institute has placed Santa Fe College among the top 10 percent of community colleges in the country.

This honor qualifies Santa Fe to compete with 120 other schools for a portion of the $1 million in prizes the institute will award to help colleges increase student retention and graduation rates.

To earn a grant, Santa Fe must develop a detailed plan demonstrating the current success of its students and its plans to improve their future results.

The competition for the Aspen Prize was announced at the White House Community College Summit hosted by President Obama and Dr. Jill Biden, an educator and the wife of Vice President Joe Biden.
