Public Works Project Website Available

The City of Gainesville Public Works Department has launched a new construction website for informational purposes and to allow citizens an opportunity to voice concerns about ongoing and future construction projects.

The website, www.gainesvillepublicworks.org, currently has information about the NW 8th Avenue Reconstruction Project and the test pattern in place.  Other projects will be added as they begin the design and construction process.

The NW 8th Avenue project was actually the deciding factor in building the website. Public works spokesperson Chip Skinner said that when they initially started the project they placed a board on the site with a contact number for public works where citizens could voice concerns. After receiving dozens of calls the department heads started to discuss other ways to allow the public to raise concerns or voice support.

The site features individual pages for ongoing projects, with a section for answers to frequently asked questions and a separate page with a premade contact form. Having the website will allow the department to quickly and easily compile public opinion for internal use and presentations to government bodies like the city commission, Skinner said.

“We are excited to unveil this website to the public,” said Phil Mann, assistant public works director.  “It will help people understand why projects are being done and answer any questions that they may have through an online comment form.”
