OldStoryImageJohn M. Meffert IV has been appointed senior vice president and regional manager for Central Florida for Regions Financial Corp. He is a graduate of the University of Florida and Stetson University College of Law.

The maternity department at North Florida Regional Medical Center has earned a five-star rating from Health Grades, a nationally recognized health ratings company.

Fletcher Moore has joined Charles Perry Construction as business development manager. Moore has more than 20 years of experience in the construction industry and will concentrate on developing key business relationships in the Florida marketplace.

Several local media outlets recently were honored for outstanding work at the Advertising Federation of Gainesville’s 2011 ADDY Awards. Frankel Media Group earned “Best of Show” in both print and interactive. Gillen Broadcasting, owner of KISS 105.3, won “Best of Show” in broadcasting. Flying Kaplan Productions received the Larry Edwards Public Service Award, Stacston Carter won “Best of Show” among students and the judges award for work in television, and Erin Love Taylor earned the judges’ award for non-traditional media.

Saliwanchik, Lloyd & Saliwanchik has changed the firm’s name toSaliwanchik, Lloyd & Eisenschenk to recognize the contributions of Christopher Eisenschenk. Eisenschenk has been with the intellectual property law firm since 1999.

Ryan Cooke was named a district manager for Wachovia, a Wells Fargo company, overseeing nine banking stores in the Gainesville market. He will be responsible for 125 employees and nearly $600 million in customer deposits.

Gainesville-based SumTotal Systems Inc., an employee management software company, has acquired GeoLearning, adding capabilities in mid-market, government and extended enterprise market segments. SumTotal has more than 39 million users across 2,300 global customers such as Sony Electronics, Amway, Seagate, Dell and Google.

Group 5 Advertising won seven awards for excellence at the recent Advertising Federation of Gainesville’s annual ADDY Awards. The agency, which has been in business for 29 years, earned recognition for logo and website design, as well as print and non-traditional advertising campaigns.

Richard Ashbrook, director of operations for Collegiate Properties in Gainesville, has been elected Southeast Regional Director for Alpha Kappa Psi, the college business fraternity.

Nationwide Insurance won the fifth annual ACEL Champions for Charity kickball tournament, earning $5,000 for the America Heart Association. Also earning money for their charities were Frankel Media Group, which earned $2,500 for the Sebastian Ferrero Foundation; UF Division of Student Affairs, which won $1,500 for the UF Foundation Fund; and Tower Hill Insurance, which won $1,000 for Ronald McDonald House.

Zuzu, an American-Mediterranean restaurant, has opened at 238 West University Avenue in Gainesville. The restaurant, which is owned by Joseph Semrani, features seasonal dishes starting at $6 and an ultra-modern lounge. The restaurant will also host banquets and meetings next door in its Jolie Events space.

Doug Wilcox, the president of Scherer Construction, has joined the executive committee of the advisory council to the University of Florida’s Rinker School of Building Construction. He also will be serving in the unrelated role of chairman of the North Central Florida BCN Alumni chapter.
