Nonprofit Back-to-School Kick-Off

Children’s Home Society of Florida (CHS), a state-wide, not-for-profit provider of child and family services, has kicked-off its annual Back-to-School Drive and is seeking the help of the local community to provide the necessary resources to ensure a good school experience for the children in its programs.

“Most children have the privilege of coming to class on the first day of school with brand new backpacks and supplies, however, for those who do not share the same privilege, their educational experiences may not be as enjoyable,” the organization said in a press release.

“Many of the children we serve have had to deal with abuse and neglect and need one fewer thing to worry about this upcoming school year,” CHS said. “You can help by making a financial contribution or by donating any new supplies, including but not limited to, backpacks, pencils, pens, erasers, sharpeners, rulers, calculators, crayons, markers, and clothing.”

Children’s Home Society requests that all supplies be dropped off by Thursday, Aug. 10, to ensure that caseworkers have enough time to distribute the supplies before school starts.

Supplies can be dropped off at the CHS office in Gainesville, at 711 NW First St.
