New Christian Kindergarten Set to Open

On July 17, The Family Church of Gainesville was approved for a private-school kindergarten program on its campus, which will accompany its current Academy Preschool program.

The program will start on Aug. 19, and will use the church’s current preschool facility from 8am to 3pm, Monday through Friday.

Suzana Sargent, the director of the Academy Preschool, said she decided to move forward with plans for the kindergarten program because of demand from parents.

“We wanted to give the community a choice,” she said.

The school is completely self-sufficient, she said, and receives no money from the church. It currently hosts 82 children and employs 25 teachers and caretakers, 75 percent of whom are bilingual.

The school will teach a Christian curriculum and be taught by a four-year elementary education graduate. Up-front costs include a $350 books fee and a $150 registration fee, and the regular fee will be $720 a month for 10 months.

Sargent is currently seeking grants to allow for fee vouchers. The preschool currently hosts 17 children for three and a half hours a day under Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) vouchers.

“Over 80 percent of our parents don’t attend The Family Church,” she said. “So we really serve the Gainesville community.”

The Family Church is located at 2022 SW 122nd St. and can be reached at 352-332-6459.
