New Board Announced including first Woman in Club History

On Tuesday, December 7, 2021 the Gainesville Quarterback Club held its final meeting of the year which included the appointment of the 2022 Board of Directors, including for the first time in the club’s 71-year history, a woman, Mrs. Tricia Garzon.

In 2018, the club changed its original charter, established in 1950, to open membership to women. Bob Bagley, incoming Captain, “I am honored to have the trust of a great organization like the Gainesville Quarterback Club and to be elected as the captain for the next two years,” said Bagley. “We have assembled an incredible leadership team and I am proud to be working alongside each one of them. I am especially honored to be the first Captain to have a female Board member on our team with Tricia being elected to that role. Our focus over the course of the next couple of years, is to create an environment of comradery and exclusivity that is deserving of each of our members.”

As the “Oldest Gator Booster Club in the World”, the club has funded eight fully endowed UF football scholarships and is working in its ninth. In addition, it is credited with equipping the first computer lab for UF student athletes, purchased the first portable X-ray machine to travel with the team, is the Charter Sponsor of the Ray Graves Award and awards an annual scholarship to a local high school scholar athlete.

“I am excited and honored to accept this role with the Gainesville Quarterback Club. As a third generation and lifelong gator, Gator alumnus and now proud Gator parent, the University of Florida and especially Gator Football has been an integral part of my life,” said Garzon. “In addition, having raised two children who grew up playing sports, I saw firsthand the important role it can play in developing the lives of young people.”

In addition, the annual end of year banquet includes honoring local student athletes and coaches. This year’s selectees are as follows:

2021 Scholar Athlete of the Year Ty-rique Robinson, Santa Fe High School, received a $1,000 scholarship from the club

2021 Offensive Player of the Year, Creed Whittemore, Buchholz High School

2021 Defensive Player of the Year, Landon Rogers, Santa Fe High School

2021 Coach of the Year, Cornelius Ingram, Hawthorne High School

2021 City Champion, Buchholz High School
