Meet The IWL 2020 Keynote Speakers

The Office of Professional and Workforce Development at the University of Florida in partnership with Warrington College of Business and the Office of the Chief Diversity Officer is hosting the 3rd Annual Inspiring Women Leaders Conference being held March 8-10, 2020 at the University of Florida Hilton Conference Center. This three-day event will provide the opportunity for personal and professional development, along with interactive pre-conference workshops focusing on dynamic and impactful leadership skills.

Keynote speakers for the event include John Spence, Jennifer Magley and Sherron Washington.

John Spence

For more than 23 years John Spence has traveled worldwide helping people and businesses be more successful. John is the author of five books and co-author of several more, a business consultant, workshop facilitator, keynote speaker and executive coach with a client list that includes numerous Fortune 500 firms to small businesses, professional associations and other organizations. John’s areas of expertise include: leadership, high-performance teams, managing change, organizational culture, consultative selling, strategic planning, strategy execution and the future of business.

At 26 John was the CEO of an international Rockefeller foundation, overseeing projects in 20 countries. Just two years later Inc. Magazine named him one of America’s Up and Coming Young Business Leaders. John is recognized as one of the Top 100 Business Thought Leaders in America, one of the Top 100 Small Business Influencers in America, one of the Top 50 Small Business Experts in America and one of the top 500 Leadership Development Experts in the World. The American Management Association named John one of America’s Top 50 Leaders to Watch along with Sergey Brin and Larry Page of Google and Jeff Bezos of Amazon.

John was named one of eight finalists for the Breakthrough Idea Award for the Thinkers50 2017 Distinguished Achievement Awards. The Thinkers50 celebrates the thinkers who have contributed the most to management thinking and practice over the last two years and whose ideas drive the conversations of the day.

John is a voracious learner and consumes a minimum of 100 business books, countless articles and blogs a year. He is a guest lecturer at more than 90 colleges and universities including MIT, Stanford, Cornell, Wharton School of Business, University of Auckland, Canterbury University, University of Krakow and Kozminski University. He was the owner or CEO of six companies and currently serves as a board member or adviser to several organizations and executives.

John has made a career of “making the very complex … awesomely simple.”

 

Jennifer Magley

Jennifer Magley is a speaker, former professional athlete, NCAA Division I head coach, entrepreneur, and author. She has received national media coverage most notably from USA Today, CNN, ESPN, Heart & Soul Magazine,The Indianapolis Star, and IndyStyle TV. Magley is a Make-A-Wish® America Honoree and has served on non-profit boards The Patachou Foundation and COBURN Place in Indianapolis, IN. She is a proud single mother of 2 young boys.

In 2015, Magley launched OPEN GYM the first fitness service of its kind in Indiana by partnering with 40 private gyms in offering access to all for one low monthly fee. A strong connector she garnered corporate partnerships to promote OPEN GYM with the NFL Indianapolis Colts Organization, Angie’s List, and OurHealth. During her years of independent consulting she successfully connected clients to O Magazine, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Magazine, and Apple by implementing her “High-Low-Circular” method. A passionate storyteller, Magley is an in demand speaker, show guest, and writer contributing to many outlets including Thrive Global, Indianapolis Monthly, and Foundr Magazine.

A Kansas native and former standout student-athlete, Magley is a proud IMG Sports Academy Alumni and University of Florida graduate. She was a scholarship athlete at IMG Academy under the direct tutelage of renowned tennis coach Nick Bollettieri. While at UF, she was the #1 Ranked NCAA Division I Singles player in the country, NCAA Team Champion, Four-time All-American, First Team ESPN The Magazine, Finalist for the Honda Award and recipient of the Arthur Ashe Jr., Sports Scholar, and SEC Good Works awards. As a member of TEAM USA, Magley represented the United States in over 14 countries. Post graduation she competed professionally on the WTA Tour before being named Associate Head Coach at Wichita State University.

At 23, she was the youngest NCAA Division I head coach in the nation at Florida Gulf Coast University. During her five years at FGCU she served on various boards and committees including “Gender Equity/Title IX.” While at FGCU, her teams received many accolades and recognition for their community work from United Way, USA Today, and IMPACT For Kids. She co-created “Spring Bling” a one night red carpet event for children with life threatening illnesses, which is currently celebrating it’s 8th year in Southwest Florida. Magley’s debut novel Division I was released spotlighting issues that effect female collegiate athletes. “Division I” was featured on ESPN The Radio, reviewed by “The Kansas City Star,” and is recommended Syllabi reading at various institutions across the country.

Sherron Washington

Sherron Washington, M.A. is a marketing and communication (marcom) professional who has imparted her wisdom and expertise for over two decades. She provides innovative, solution-driven insight, that identifies ideal marketing and communication techniques.  Coupled with an elite keenness for effectively communicating, she uses strategy, learning theory, and technologies to create a perfect fusion of communication and marketing efforts that assist in creating an impactful professional presence that can attract more customers leads and increase growth opportunities.

A sought-after international speaker, trainer, facilitator and professor, Sherron’s energetic passion permeates the crowd and creates an unforgettable electrifying experience.  Her “market simple” message has been delivered across many stages worldwide, including: Inbound, Yello Media Group Digicon and the Association for Training Development to name a few. She also trains and facilitates sessions for multi-million dollar corporations such as: Goldman Sachs and Events DC instructing them on everything from generating leads and sales, to managing bias and conflict.  She currently teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in: Public Speaking, Introduction to Mass Communication, Theory and Practice of Marketing, Gender and Communication, Leadership, Women Studies, Intercultural and Interpersonal Communication, Consumer Behavior, Advertising and Promotion, Social Media Marketing and Public Relations for over a decade at Trinity Washington University in Washington, DC.

Sherron has been described as the “real-deal” when it comes to engagement.  She is tremendously skillful at creating and cultivating authentic interactions that generate synergy that flourish into countless opportunities.  She uses a combination of her marcom business acumen, online and offline to create a distinctive and lasting presence that encourages and influences others to be more willing to build an integral relationship. Sherron hosts networking events around the world including: BluEx, an elite invite-, women-only annual brunch that fuses global networking with a great dose of fun and Coffeehouse Takeovers, where she invites professionals to join her for a quick cup of coffee and conversation with other professions to discuss marketing, communication and better business strategy. She understands the importance of building lasting integral relationships by fashioning and environment that encourages engagement, in order to build better business relationships.

Sherron’s goal is to educate businesses on how to develop and execute better marketing and communication strategies that will have successful outcomes. 

Sherron has a Masters of Arts in Communications and a Bachelor of Arts in Communications with a double minor in Business and Media Technology.
