Local medical software developer announces merger

An orthotics and prosthetics software developer that has been based in Gainesville for nearly two decades has announced it will combine with a former competitor.

OPIE Software announced it will bring Clearwater-based Futura International, a company that provides similar healthcare systems and software, under its corporate umbrella.

The merger will bring together the 980 locations using OPIE Software with the 700-plus locations using Futura systems.

The announcement was made to the more than 2,800 attendees at the National Assembly for the American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association in Las Vegas.

“Our two organizations have been friendly competitors for the past decade, but it’s really amazing how things work out sometimes,” said Paul Prusakowski, OPIE Software CEO, in a statement. “When Futura’s ownership presented us with the opportunity to talk about how we could work together, we realized that instead of spending resources competing with Futura, we could use those same resources to help drive new technologies to help both of our client bases.”
