Call it a pre-incubator incubator. A Gainesville “hacking club” has moved into a 3,000 square-foot basement office space downtown in the Sun Center.
The group, made up of about 40 engineers (spearheaded in party by Trendy Entertainment CEO Augi Lye), is a part of a growing national trend of hobbyists who get together to pool resources, expertise, equipment and ideas in the pursuit of invention. The group meets on Tuesday nights. “This is how Apple got started,” says Lye, “just a bunch of kids hacking.”
