Gainesville FL MSA Economic Indicators Report Released

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) and the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) recently released June 2019 employment and unemployment estimates. 

As highlight of the Gainesville FL MSA report, the area unemployment posted the following results:

  • Gainesville MSA not seasonally unemployment rate was 3.4% in June 2019. 
  • The number of jobs in the Gainesville MSA was 142,200 in June 2019, up 2,000 jobs compared to a year ago.
  • 7 out of 10 major industries posted over-the-year gains in June 2019. Employment gains were seen in several industries: Mining, Logging, & Construction (3.4%); Trade, Transportation & Utilities (1.4%); Financial Activities (1.5%); Professional & Business Services (5.5%); Education & Health Services (1.9%); Other Services (2.3%), and, Government (1.2%). Losses were seen in: Manufacturing (-4.3%); and Leisure & Hospitality (-0.6%) . Please see Page 2 for more details.

The Alachua County Economic Indicators Report is a publication prepared by Alachua County. This report provides a snapshot of recent changes in the economy of the Gainesville MSA. The MSA is comprised by Alachua County and Gilchrist County. The report draws on official statistics that have been released during the last month. The data published in this publication was gathered from several sources such as: Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), National Association of Realtors, Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO), and Office of Economic & Demographic Research.
