The state is a leader, but not in a good way.
According to the Federal Trade Commission, Florida is second in the nation in consumer complaints about both identity theft and fraud. Colorado came in first.
More than 90,000 people filed complaints, with the greatest number originating in South Florida, followed by Orlando. The average loss in each case was roughly $600.
Florida also placed first for identity theft complaints based on the number per capita. Florida also had the highest per capita rate for identity theft during the previous year but was only 10th in fraud at that time.
Nationalwide, more than 1.3 million consumer fraud complaints were filed in 2010.
