Education foundation to award $293,688 to high school seniors

 

The Education Foundation of Alachua County will be awarding $293,688 worth of college scholarships to 73 local high school seniors at the Scholarship Ceremony and Reception at the Paramount Plaza Hotel on May 15, 2014 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Thirteen seniors will receive 2+2 Florida Pre-paid scholarships that will cover full tuition for 2 years at a state college and 2 years at a state university. These scholarships are the culmination of 6 years of being a part of Take Stock in Children, a mentoring and scholarship program for at-risk youth in our community.

Sixty seniors will receive scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 through the “Scholarships for Success” program of The Education Foundation. These scholarships are sponsored by individuals, businesses and civic organizations who want to help local students achieve their future goals.

The Education Foundation of Alachua County, Inc. is a 501(C)3 organization founded in 1986, whose mission is to invest in the future of Alachua County’s public school students. The foundation administers multiple programs including Take Stock in Children, Horse Tales Literacy Project, Scholarships for Success, Find It & Fund It, and Catalyst for Change Teacher Grants. The Education Foundation also supports teacher and employee recognition events as well as provides funding for staff development training.
