The Education Foundation has awarded laptops to 20 students from their Take Stock in Children program thanks to the generosity of Cox Communications.
Students were surprised in the company of their school administrators, parents and Take Stock in Children mentors. “We want to encourage these students and reward them for their hard work in school, despite the many obstacles they face,” said Foundation Executive Director, Rachel Debigare.
“We’re happy to work with The Education Foundation to supply these deserving students with laptops,” said Aimee Pfannenstiel, market vice president for Cox Central Florida. “Putting the right tools in the hands of our students is one way to ensure they succeed in the classroom. We continue to work to close the digital divide.”
About Take Stock in Children
Take Stock in Children is a program of The Education Foundation of Alachua County that breaks the cycle of poverty by providing a pathway that allows low-income, at-risk students to stay in school, graduate from high school, complete college or technical school and go on to become productive citizens. This success is achieved through an innovative multi-year program model of mentoring, a college success coach, accountability, college readiness skills training, and a college scholarship.
