Companies fine tune investor pitches and compete for prizes

GAIN 6th Annual FastPitch Call for Applicants due March 27th

Applications for the GAIN 6th Annual FastPitch Contest are now being accepted. Applications are due by March 27th. This is a fast-paced event that provides companies with an opportunity to practice their investor pitches,  get valuable feedback, win prizes and ultimately could  lead to an investment.

The selected start-ups will compete in a speed-dating style event where the entrepreneurs (‘Pitchers’) have 3 minutes to pitch their business idea to specially recruited investors, mentors or service providers (the ‘Catchers’). The Catchers will vote on the best Pitcher, who will take home the coveted FastPitch Bat.

Here’s how it works: there will be 9 “innings” (baseball, get it?). Each inning lasts 5 minutes. Each company has a maximum of 3 minutes to give their elevator pitch to a table of 1-3 Catchers. The pitch is followed by 2-3 minutes of discussion. The Catchers will then provide feedback on the pitch, allowing the company representatives to fine tune their presentation as they go through the event. The  can also ask questions, offer business advice or schedule time to meet at a later date to learn more about the business idea. The event concludes with the announcement of the winner.

The first place winner will receive $500 cash, $1,000 in legal fees from Saliwanchik, Lloyd & Eisenschenk, $500 accounting fees provided by James Moore, plus a free application and one ticket to the Florida Venture Forum Early-Stage competition in Orlando, May 13-14, 2015.
