Bunt Backline Event Services: From Passtime to Profession

When Eric Lenasbunt founded Bunt Backline Event Services in 2005, it was more of an excuse to buy production equipment than a true business concept. Since then, this family-owned production company has grown exponentially, adding employees, expanding their offerings and servicing events all over the world. Eric was able to turn his passion for production into his career, and recently, he shared his journey with Collin Austin and Michael Dees on the WHOA GNV Podcast.

Like many business owners, Eric had an entrepreneurial spirit from an early age. In middle school he made almost $50 a day selling Blow Pops on the bus, and in high school he and his band started their own record label. He was always looking for new ways to make his hobbies fund themselves, and eventually that led to the creation of Bunt Backline Event Services.

While earning his degree in education, Eric enjoyed collecting production equipment. When he saw how much performers were paying to bring in the equipment he had sitting around in his garage, he knew he could turn his hobby into something lucrative. With a $5000 investment, Eric and his father, Gary Bunt, bought some equipment and went into business.

“We really started with a drum set, a guitar amp, a bass amp, and a keyboard, and that’s all we had,” Eric told Collin and Mike.

The business started out slow, with Eric working full-time as an elementary school teacher. He enjoyed teaching, but he knew production was his true passion. Every bit of spare time he could find, he spent answering emails and booking events.

He said, “If I’m going to do this, I actually need to sacrifice things for it,” so he woke up early, skipped his lunch breaks and worked on weekends, growing his business until his side hustle could become his livelihood.

Once he devoted himself to running Bunt Backline Event Services full time, sales more than tripled and the company took off. He continued to reinvest his profits, allowing him to buy new equipment, offer more services, and hire employees. Eric found that transitioning into the role of CEO was difficult, but it also gave him the opportunity to learn how to bring his business to the next level.

Now, as one of the leading production companies in the Southeast, Bunt Backline Event Services has made an impression on this industry, and customers are seeking out the high quality productions Eric and his team have to offer.
