Alachua County Recognized for Performance Management Leadership

The International City/County Management Association (ICMA) has recognized Alachua County with the 2019 Certificate of Excellence in Performance Management. The Certificate of Excellence was presented to the Commission Chair at the County Commission Regular Meeting on Tuesday, September 24, 2019. It is awarded to those agencies who attain the highest standards in performance management, leadership, and reporting.

According to the ICMA, “Performance management is a bedrock principle of professional local government management with a commitment to collect and analyze data, report it transparently, and use it to continuously engage their communities and improve their organizations.”

Certificates are awarded based upon established criteria in the following areas:

  • Reporting of performance data to the public
  • Data verification efforts to ensure data reliability
  • Use of performance data in strategic planning, process improvement, and operational decision making
  • Commitment to tracking and reporting key outcomes
  • Training, networking, surveying, and benchmarking

Alachua County is among 27 jurisdictions nationwide to receive the 2019 Certificate of Excellence – the highest level awarded by the ICMA. This is the fifth consecutive year that Alachua County has been awarded the Certificate of Excellence in Performance Management.

Alachua County Manager Michele L. Lieberman said, “As we adopt the annual budget and move into the new fiscal year, I am once again honored to accept this award on behalf of Alachua County. This award reinforces the fact that Alachua County strives to be good stewards of resources by focusing on data-driven management, transparency, and a focus on outcomes.”
