Alachua-Based Sandvik Named 2018 Manufacturer of the Year

The Manufacturers Association of Florida announced Sandvik as the recipient of the  2018 Manufacturers of the Year competition in the Large Manufacturer category. For more than a decade, MAF has recognized the best in manufacturing across the state of Florida as the industry continues to thrive.

After a record setting year of nominations, a statewide team of judges narrowed the competition to finalists in four categories. Each company was judged on leadership, strategic planning, customer and market focus, measurement, analysis and knowledge management, workforce focus, and operations. In addition to evaluation of the applications, the judges interviewed nominees and toured their facilities over a six-month period.

Jacques Britz, Vice President, Surface Pedestal Drills, Sandvik Mining and Rock Technology commented, “This award is the result of the dedicated work our entire Alachua team. Every day our employees come to work ready to support one another as we continue to build the most reliable surface drills in the industry. We have an amazing group of people here, they really care about what they do, day in and day out.”

“Sandvik stood out in their category with our team of industry judges for a number of reasons,” said Amanda Bowen, Executive Director of MAF. “Their leadership team inspired us with their exceptional sense of culture which could be felt by every employee on the floor. The high sense of work ethic and loyalty impressed upon the association a sense of pride which is sought after by all business owners in this day and age. With their emphasis on employee knowledge, Sandvik’s attention and dedication to certification and training is raising the bar for other manufacturers. We are thrilled with their role in Florida and look forward to standing behind Sandvik as they continue to grow and excel.”
