Alachua-based Medical Device Company Graduates from UF Innovate | Sid Martin Biotech Program

UF Innovate | Sid Martin Biotech, the leading biotechnology incubator at the University of Florida, has announced that resident company MLM Biologics, Inc. has graduated from its program. MLM Biologics is a medical device company that provides evidence-based solutions in the advance wound care and musculoskeletal clinical spaces. The company designs, develops, manufactures and commercializes clinical products that are aimed to offer the best medical-economic alternatives in those markets. The company is currently commercializing its flagship product, the FDA-cleared, bio-ConneKt® Wound Matrix, in the advance wound care market. Having successfully obtained requisite clearances for use across civilian, military and VA clinical spaces, MLM will be graduating into a stand-alone commercial space in Gainesville’s Innovation District to expand their manufacturing capabilities.

“Retaining a high growth company like MLM Biologics in Alachua County and in the State is a big win for our economy. MLM Biologics will continue to expand their operations and bring investments and jobs into our community,” said Merrie Shaw, Assistant Director of UF Innovate | Sid Martin Biotech. The company was able to locate their headquarters locally due to the availability of suitable, specialized commercial space, which is not readily available in many other communities.

MLM Biologics joins more than 60 biotech company alumni of Sid Martin Biotech, including AxoGen (NASDAQ: AXGN), Applied Genetic Technologies Corporation (NASDAQ: AGTC), RTI Surgical (NASDAQ: RTIX), Ology Bioservices and Captozyme.

“As a start-up, we faced an unexpected, abrupt change in our business plan. Sid Martin Biotech provided a soft landing and the platform for us to mature as a commercial entity. With the core of MLM fueled locally, we are especially pleased to continue our growth and expansion here,” said Chandra Nataraj, CEO & Co-Founder of MLM Biologics.

Mark Long, Director of UF Incubation Services, stated, “This is a great example of UF Innovate’s role in economic development in Gainesville – we support startup companies so they can graduate and occupy space locally, adding jobs and revenues to the local and state economy.”
