Omi’s Kitchen Opens Downtown

Owner Ken McGurn is excited about having as established restaurateur in his building. “We are extremely pleased to have someone so well known and liked as Omi Risco in Sun Center. I am personally looking forward to their special meatloaf and mashed potatoes. We see Sun Center as a hub of downtown activity and having another vibrant restaurant will only create more activity and benefit all the other downtown businesses.”

For Omi, the restaurant is a perfect complement to her existing location off of Tower Road. “I’ve been looking for several years for the right opportunity to get closer to downtown. When the Sun Center spot came available, I knew right away it would be perfect. Not only can we become an integral part of the downtown scene but we’ll also be able to do catering from that location and better serve the campus and central Gainesville.”

The transaction was brokered by Coldwell Banker M. M. Parrish Realtors. Todd Rainsberger of The Beery Rainsberger Group said that Omi was fortunate to secure the space. “We had a lot of interest in the Sun Center spot. The restaurant wasn’t on the market a week before we had multiple offers. Once the owners, Ken and Linda McGurn, saw that Omi was one of those interested they focused all their attention on getting her into the location.” Perry Pursell of Coldwell Banker observed, “As soon as I brought the location to Omi she knew that’s where she wanted to be. It was perfect.”

The new restaurant, which is adjacent to the Hippodrome, will feature Omi’s unique mix of Cuban and other ethnic foods and is scheduled to open later this summer.
