Oak Hammock at the University of Florida® Opens Expanded Health Pavilion

Oak Hammock at the University of Florida® recently expanded and renovated the community’s Health Pavilion. The $9.7 million, multi-phase project encompassed assisted living and skilled nursing services, adding more than 20,000 square feet in all. Renovations to the existing facility were also made.

The skilled nursing expansion adds 31 all-private accommodations (for a total of 73), as well as enlarged dining, amenities and service areas. This portion of the project added 14,850 square feet and created two exterior courtyards within a neighborhood setting.

Additionally, the skilled nursing facility has been significantly renovated – adding private shower accommodations to each unit, and renovating existing kitchen areas, activity areas and dining rooms. New technology, including a new emergency call system and kiosks for entering electronic medical records, have been installed throughout the building – enhancing safety and well-being.

Managed by Jacksonville-based PRAXEIS, the 18-month project was completed on time and under budget, creating 33 new jobs at Oak Hammock. Gainesville-based general contractors were Charles Perry Partners for the skilled nursing expansion and renovation, and Oelrich Construction for the assisted living expansion. The architectural firm was Jacksonville-based KBJ Architects, Inc.

“Expanding and renovating the Health Pavilion to make it even more modernized and spacious aligns with Oak Hammock’s commitment to excellence and innovation in long-term care,” said PRAXEIS Executive Vice President, Jon Corbin. “That, coupled with the community’s non-traditional, non-institutional “neighborhood” setting, creates an environment that is not only state-of-the-art, but warm, welcoming and comfortable, too.”

As a result of the expansion, additional skilled nursing accommodations are available to the public for both short- and long-term stays. Membership at Oak Hammock is not required – and openings will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, call 352-548-1142.

The skilled nursing residences at Oak Hammock’s Health Pavilion have received a 5-Star rating from Florida’s Agency for Health Care Administration, meaning that they meet the highest standards in care.
