Gainesville to Host IT Job Fair

Gainesville’s thriving startup community is looking for talent, and thanks to a partnership between FloridaWorks, the Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce and Innovation Gainesville, they’ll have the chance to show off their growing companies at the first ever Start Up Downtown exhibition.

Developed with students and technical job seekers in mind, the July 18 event will include walking tours of downtown startups like Grooveshark, demonstrations by HackerHouse cadets and networking through the Feathr app.

Attendees will have access to specials at Vellos Brickstreet Grill, 101 Downtown and Half Cork’d, and the McGurn Investment Company will validate parking for the Southeast Second Avenue parking garage.

Fracture, a company that prints photos onto panes of glass and has been featured on the Today Show and TechCrunch, will open its doors for an open house, according to Mike Garrett, director of marketing and public relations for the company. Fracture supports the show of solidarity among the startup community, he said, and he hopes the event brings local attention to local success stories.

Interested job seekers should register for free at http://fwstartupdowntown.eventbrite.com/ and are encouraged to bring resumes and portfolios.

Start Up Downtown, on Thursday, July 18, will be on the second-floor balcony of Union Street Station, at 201 SE Second Ave., from 6pm to 9pm.
