Construction begins at Arbours at Tumblin Creek

Doster Construction Company, a Birmingham, Ala. construction firm, recently began construction on a five-story apartment building for seniors in Gainesville. Arbours at Tumblin Creek — named after the creek at the back side of the property — will have 96 bedrooms among 64 units.

Arbour Valley Development, LLC is the project’s developer, Doster is the general contractor, and McKean and Associates is the architect of record.

Arbour Valley Development, also a Birmingham company, worked with the Florida Housing Finance Corp. to prepare accommodations for veterans and handicapped veterans, and seniors over the age of 55. The primary reason for the site’s selection, Steve Lowitz, a principal at Arbour Valley said, is because of its proximity to UF Health and the VA Medical Center, as well as bus-route access.

Arbours at Tumblin Creek — named after the creek at the back side of the property — will have 96 bedrooms among 64 units, according to city records.

The roughly 3-acre site at 1309 SW 13th St. is next to the Indian Cultural and Education Center. It stands out by being a heavily wooded area along the mostly developed stretch of road. A vacant white house, mostly hidden by plants and trees, will be removed, documents show.

This is Doster’s second project with Arbour Valley Development.

The project will be completed by the summer of 2017, according to an Arbour Valley spokesperson and will feature one and two bedroom units. The residents of the project will be 55 and older and the property is income restricted, again according to an Arbour spokesperson.

Doster Multifamily has completed more than 2,000 units of multifamily housing in the last year and was recently ranked within the Top 20 Multifamily General Contractors in the nation by Multifamily Executive magazine.
