The City of Gainesville Plan Board is holding a public workshop to discuss a variety of key issues related to the update of the Land Development Code. The workshop will take place Thursday, Jan. 30 at 6:30 p.m. in the City Hall Auditorium, which is located at 200 E. University Ave. in Gainesville. The City Plan Board and the City of Gainesville Planning and Development Services Department are seeking direction from the community on major topics, including:
Allowable building heights and compatibility with residential areas and historic districts
Street and building design
Parking requirements
Automotive-oriented uses
The development review process
Input from this workshop will be incorporated into the update of the Land Development Code. Planning and Development Services staff has worked over the past two years to update, streamline and simplify the current code, while incorporating new form-based principles to guide future growth in the city. The desired outcome of the new Land Development Code is to establish a framework to empower the city and its citizens to enable better development patterns, improve the quality of our built environment, foster pedestrian-friendly development and redevelopment and give citizens and developers clear and predictable standards.
Interested citizens are encouraged to attend and provide insight on these critical topics as the Planning and Development Services Department seeks to finalize a draft Land Development Code by the end of February.
