City of Gainesville and Bob Graham Center for Public Service announce Undergraduate Fellowship Opportunity

The City of Gainesville and the University of Florida Bob Graham Center for Public Service have partnered to establish a fellowship opportunity for undergraduate UF students during the 2017-2018 academic year.

The City of Gainesville and the University of Florida (UF) have outlined several areas for collaboration between the city and the university to help solve problems using more productive, creative and efficient methods than those used in the past. A formalized fellowship program aimed at empowering civic-minded UF students offers a promising solution.

The fellows’ work will be project-based, consisting of four, eight-week components (two each semester), and will focus on digital services, research and prototyping, engagement and visual design. Fellows will work closely with one another, city departments and organizational leadership to complete objectives. Up to four fellows will work part time (10 to 15 hours a week) during the fall and spring semesters.

“We are excited to connect with the tremendous talent at the University of Florida for the benefit of the entire Gainesville community as we co-design a New American City,” said Carrie Bush, director of strategic initiatives for the City of Gainesville. “We look forward to establishing a formalized and ongoing collaboration with our partners at the Bob Graham Center for Public Service, which will provide their students with a lasting experience of positively impacting our local citizens.”

“We are very pleased to offer our students this opportunity to work with experienced and talented city leaders in Gainesville and to provide our students with some exciting opportunities to address local problems,” said Dr. David Colburn, the director of the Bob Graham Center for Public Service.

The fellowship program will be directed by the City of Gainesville City Manager’s Office, in collaboration with the Bob Graham Center for Public Service. Each fellow will work across functional areas such as strategic planning, Citizen-Centered Gainesville, communications, human resources, the City of Gainesville Department of Doing and others.

Applications for the fellowship are due Monday, May 15, 2017. For more information and to find the application, visit www.bobgrahamcenter.ufl.edu/content/city-gainesville-local-government-fellowship.
