Chamber Extends Glaeser’s Term as Board of Directors Chair Another Year

By Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce

The Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce announces the extension of current Board of Directors Chairman Mitch Glaeser leadership by another year. Glaeser currently serves as the 2013 Board Chairman, which would have ended at the Chamber’s Annual Meeting on Jan. 30th. The one-year extension will keep Glaeser as Chairman until December 2014.

2013 Chair-elect John Carlson will remain chair-elect in 2014. Carlson also serves as Chairman of the Council for Economic Outreach.

Gainesville Chamber President and CEO Tim Giuliani said the extension was the result of the Board’s desire to continue the momentum of key initiatives that started in late 2013.

“The decision to keep Mitch as Chairman was unanimous,” Giuliani said. “Due to the amount of new initiatives the Gainesville Chamber has undergone in the last year, the Board felt it was vitally important to maintain consistency and sustain the momentum we’ve all felt this last year.”

Glaeser has been the Gainesville Chamber’s Board of Directors Chair since January 2013, when he took over the reins from past Chairman and Santa Fe Healthcare CEO Michael Gallagher.

“Mitch has provided the Gainesville Chamber strong leadership and inspiration as we improve our initiatives to better support the growth of our regional business community,” said Dr. Jackson Sasser, President of Santa Fe College and Gainesville Chamber Board of Directors member. “He has played an integral role in establishing key initiatives in the last year, and extending the term another year will provide him and our entire Board the opportunity to advance further”.

Glaeser’s extension, while rare is not a first for the Gainesville Chamber; Marilyn Tubb, retired Associate Vice President of Santa Fe College and current Board of Directors member, was the last Gainesville Chamber Chair to serve two consecutive terms in 1999 and 2000.

“We have made great strides in the last year in positioning the Gainesville Chamber to continue to make a more significant impact on the growth of our regional economy,” said Tubb.

“From education to business growth, the Chamber is taking a leadership role for the future of our region and extending our current Chair allows us to build on current initiatives established in the last year,” Tubb said.

Glaeser said he appreciates the opportunity to lead the Chamber for another year, citing great strides the community has made in recent months and in positioning the Gainesville Chamber to lead on key initiatives.

“I look forward to assisting in the continued growth of our regional economy,” Glaeser said.

Glaeser is currently the Vice President of Business Development for The Emory Group.
