CareerSource North Central Florida to launch the 2017 Gainesville edition of Startup Quest®

CareerSource North Central Florida will launch the 2017 Gainesville edition of Startup Quest®, a nationally-recognized 10-week entrepreneurship training program, at an Information Workshop on April 12 from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. at the Wyndham Garden Gainesville at 2900 SW 13th Street.

The program is available to all residents of Alachua and Bradford counties interested in participating. For eligible residents who are long-term unemployed or underemployed, CareerSource NCFL will offer scholarships through STEM Ready. Residents interested in securing a scholarship should visit a staffing specialist at the nearest CareerSource NCFL career center in Gainesville or Starke to confirm their eligibility and enroll in STEM Ready.

Startup Quest® launched as a pilot in 2011 and gives professionals the training and skills to become entrepreneurs or bring their new entrepreneurial skills and business acumen to an existing company. Participants with bachelors, masters, or doctorate degrees are placed onto teams and paired with seasoned business executive mentors to simulate the formation of a company around a licensed technology from a Florida research university, federal laboratory, or NASA.

CareerSource NCFL earned a $12 million Workforce Innovation Fund grant from the U.S. Department of Labor to expand the program to nine additional Florida regions between 2012 and 2015 and gained attention from the White House, National Association Workforce Board, the National Governors Association, the Federal Reserve and the World Bank.

To date, 2,385 Floridians have participated in Startup Quest®.
