Alachua County Welcomes New Manager

The Alachua County Commission has selected Deputy County Manager Betty M. Baker to succeed current County Manager Richard Drummond, beginning Monday, July 22.

Baker began her career in Alachua County in 2002 as the administrative support manager, according to the Alachua County Community Update. She holds master’s degrees in education and public administration, as well as numerous affiliations and awards from organizations like the March of Dimes, Great Rivers Girl Scout Council and the Gainesville Downtown Rotary Club.

As county manager, Baker will supervise over 800 Alachua County employees under the Board of County Commissioners, and work with staff to ensure the professional management of county services as well as develop policy recommendations to present to the Board.
